How we support the training of future teachers

Pensby Primary School is the ‘Lead’ school in an alliance of local schools that train teachers through the governments  ‘School Direct Programme’.Our group of Partnership schools has a long established working relationship – Heswall Primary School, Barnston Primary School, Thingwall Primary School, Irby Primary School, Ladymount Catholic Primary School. We work very closely with Stanley Special Primary School and this gives our staff and trainees excellent opportunities to experience Special Educational Needs.

Our schools deliver primary education training with some schools offering Nursery places.

The Pensby Partnership works in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and offers a Post Graduate Certificate with Qualified Teaching Status with 60 credits at masters level.

In addition to this, Pensby Primary School is a member of the national SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) programme. The Lead school in this alliance is Willaston Primary School in Cheshire. We form part of a group of primary schools   delivering this long established programme. Our group of 6 Partnership schools has a very long and established working relationship – Willaston Primary School (Cheshire), Banks Lane Infant School (Stockport), Warren Wood Primary School (Stockport), St. Elphins Primary School (Stockport), Padfield Primary School (Glossop). .

All schools need people who are dedicated to the children. All our staff must be passionate and enthusiastic about teaching. This includes our School Direct and SCITT Associate Teachers.


The Pensby Primary School Direct Partnership and  the SCITT partnership are vibrant, successful Partnerships that are well established. The Partnership schools have a very close working relationship and support structure. We are committed to training effective future teachers and leaders who will inspire future generations.
