Pupil Premium
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to support pupils who may face barriers to their learning. It is specifically aimed at improving the attainment and progress of disadvantaged children, including those who are eligible for free school meals, those who have been eligible in the past, or children who are looked after or previously looked after.
Whilst schools have the flexibility to decide how best to use the Pupil Premium, we are required to publish information about how this funding is spent and the impact it has on outcomes for pupils.
At our school, we carefully plan and review how we use this funding to ensure it makes the greatest difference. Each year we:
- Identify any barriers to progress and attainment faced by each pupil
- Use evidence and current research to select the most effective support strategies
- Evaluate our previous approaches to understand what has worked well
- Prioritise targeted support and interventions for pupils receiving Pupil Premium funding
- Closely monitor the progress of these pupils, ensuring all staff are aware of and responsive to their needs
Through this approach, we aim to ensure that every child is supported to succeed and achieve their full potential.
Pensby Primary’s Approach to the Pupil Premium
At Pensby Primary, our approach to Pupil Premium is rooted in a clear understanding that children come to school with varying starting points and individual needs. We are committed to ensuring that teaching is responsive, inclusive and carefully adapted so that every child can make strong progress from where they begin.
We believe in a learning without limits culture, where high expectations are maintained for all and no child is left behind. Our strategy focuses on early identification of need through robust assessment, enabling us to provide timely, targeted support that removes barriers to learning and builds confidence.
A key priority is ensuring that all pupils develop secure foundations in early reading, mathematics and communication and language, so they can access the full curriculum with confidence. High-quality teaching sits at the heart of our approach, alongside carefully planned interventions and wider support for pupils’ wellbeing and attendance strategies.
Our aim is to provide equitable access to excellent teaching, effective support, and rich learning opportunities, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, can belong, achieve and believe in themselves.
