Our School Day
Pensby Primary School is organised like many primary schools. The hours spent in teaching per day (excluding daily worship) are 4 hours 45 minutes for Key Stage 2 children and 4 hours 35 minutes for Key Stage 1 children.
Parents must take responsibility for their children before the start of the school day at 8.40 am and at the end of the day.
Children may arrive at school from 8.40 am and should go straight to the drop off point in the playground or if it is raining, to their classroom, via the library door. At home time, the infant children are handed to those carers who collect them so that the teachers know they have been safety given to home care – any unfamiliar faces will need the parent’s permission before they can take a child. Junior children are told to return to the school building for help if they cannot find whoever is collecting them. They are regularly reminded to do this.
The classes are currently organised into year groupings. This may be subject to change depending on the number of pupils in each year. Every effort is made to maintain a good teacher/child ratio. The school provides each child with a stable situation, to support children experiencing difficulties and allow Gifted and Talented children to progress and be challenged. A variety of teaching styles are employed by the teachers to meet these needs, including whole class, group and individual teaching.
There is a policy on Assessment and Record Keeping that enables teachers to make appropriate arrangements for matching work to the individual child.
