Our School Day
Pensby Primary School is organised like many primary schools. The hours spent in teaching per day (excluding daily worship) are 4 hours 50 minutes for Key Stage 2 children and 4 hours 40 minutes for Key Stage 1 children.
Parents must take responsibility for their children before the start of the school day at 8.40 am and at the end of the day.
We operate a ‘filter in’ system at the start of the day. Children may arrive at school from 8.40 am. A member of the school team will unlock the main gates and children should go straight to their classrooms via the outside doors, where the classroom staff will be waiting to greet them. The gates are locked at 8.55am and after this time, pupils who arrive late need to come with the adult responsible for them, to the main office. The Admin team are very busy at this time and so we ask for your patience and understanding – your child will be admitted as soon as possible.
At the end of the school day we have a ‘filter out’ system and families can arrive from 3.15pm. The gates are locked at 3.30pm so please arrive just before this time. Collection is from the classroom door. If someone new is collecting your child, you need to let us know. Staff will not hand over a child to someone they do not know or whom they not aware of. You may wish your child to walk home and will need to inform us in writing if this is the case.
The classes are currently organised into year groupings. This may be subject to change depending on the number of pupils in each year. Every effort is made to maintain a good teacher/child ratio. A variety of teaching styles are employed by the teachers to meet the needs of pupils, including whole class, group and individual teaching.
There is a policy on Assessment and Record Keeping that enables teachers to make appropriate arrangements for matching work to the individual child. Families will receive regular reports about the progress of their child. We organise a formal meeting for families every term (a choice of face to face meetings and phone calls is offered) and throughout the year families can request addtional meetings or communicate with the staff through ‘Seesaw’.
