Safeguarding
At Pensby Primary School, the health, safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and it is every child’s right to feel safe in school. We expect all staff, governors, volunteers and pupils to share this commitment and it is our duty to ensure this at all times.
Safeguarding at Pensby Primary School is embedded across all aspects of school life. This includes promoting positive behaviour, ensuring the safety and security of the school site, maintaining a strong anti-bullying culture, protecting children online and providing opportunities for children to share their views through pupil voice.
All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training and are vigilant in recognising and responding to any signs of abuse, neglect or harm. Concerns are reported promptly to our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), who take appropriate action in line with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Wirral Safeguarding policies and procedures.
We are committed to providing a secure, supportive environment where children feel safe, valued and able to learn. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, regardless of role and all adults in our school understand the importance of working together to protect children.
As part of our safeguarding work, we work in partnership with a range of external agencies, including school nursing, social care, community police, children’s centres, therapists and paediatric services. Wherever possible, we aim to work openly with parents and carers to achieve the best outcomes for children. However, there may be occasions where we need to take appropriate action without prior consultation to ensure a child’s safety.

Operation Encompass
In conjunction with Merseyside Police, Pensby Primary is involved in an initiative called Operation Encompass. The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident.
Following such an incident, children can arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.
At Pensby Primary School, our key adult is Mrs K Wright (Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead).
Operation Encompass is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it the most.
You can find our more by visiting www.operationencompass.org or by contacting our Key Adult.
