Stanley School
Pensby Primary is a mainstream Primary School and we are fortunate to share the site and building with Stanley School, which is a Special Needs Primary School. This rare combination brings many benefits for our pupils, staff and the wider community.
Most importantly it allows our pupils to make bonds, form friendships and understand how wonderfully different and diverse we all are. The care our children have for each other as a result of this is priceless. When the opportunity allows we integrate some of the pupils, carefully supported by staff who understand their needs. For example, some pupils from Pensby joined their Stanley friends for Samba lessons! Another example is some pupils from Stanley joining their Pensby friends for music lessons with our specialist music coach.
Our staff also benefit greatly. They know each other and can offer support and guidance. We can combine training, knowledge and expertise with ease.
Our community is shared and we have families with pupils in both schools. We welcome both school communities to our events, such as our annual firework display.
Our governing bodies also work very closely together. The Chair of Governors for both schools is Mr David Spencer and we have other joint governors. This allows for a strong overarching strategic view of what we all need and how we can support each other to get there! Some of our staff teams are also shared or work very closely together such as our premises and admin teams.
Above all, it is amazing for all our staff, children and their families to know that valued support and friendship is in the same building and on the same site. We know that we so fortunate to be in this position and it is a privilage we cherish.
