Governors
Pensby Primary School Governors
Our school continues to go from strength to strength and we are very proud of the progress our children are making and the obvious enjoyment they are getting from all that the school provides. Standards are continuing to rise through the school’s well structured, engaging and exciting curriculum.
We are a keen and hard-working group of governors. We meet as a full Governing Body at least once a term. In addition to this we have several smaller committees that meet at least termly and look very closely at the different areas of school life. Our Governing Body is appointment in line with our Instrument of Governance. Parent Governors are nominated by parents/guardians and if an election is required only parents/guardians can vote. Staff governors are elected by school staff only. LA governors are recommended to the school by the LA and the governing board considers their suitability. Finally Co-Opted governors can be sought through local advertisement, recommendation or as a result of a governor needing to move designation. In all case they are carefully considered by the governing body who determine what skills and knowledge they can bring to the board to strengthen its operation before an appointment is made.
From time to time we may have Associate Governors on our board. Currently we have 3 Associate Governors. Associate Governors can be appointed to fill a need e.g. they have certain skills or knowledge that no other governor has and the schools needs. The Associate Governor may be appointed to ‘cover’ another governor who cannot attended for a period of time or they could be a member of staff whose role requires them to attend many governors meetings so providing continuty and purpose to their contriution. In these cases, the Governing Board will determine if they have voting rights or not. Currently our 3 Associated Governors have full voting rights and this is recording in governors minutes. They are representative of the staff, parents and community governors.
All governor appointments, resignations and voting rights are detailed in the Governing Body minutes.
Our Governing Body members are very active in the school, particularly in supporting the monitoring of teaching and learning. When they attend school events or carry out their work within the school, they sign in so that their attendance is monitored.
Governors are linked to subjects and areas of the school through our Learning Teams so that they know all aspects of the school can and are monitored regularly. As the governors are so proractive and involved in school life, they know it well and are able to speak from direct experience and with understanding.
